Massage therapy is one of the most relaxing and yet healthy things that you can do for your body and mind. In conjunction with chiropractic care or on its own, massage is extremely effective in assisting with pain management and has been since the 4th Centruy B.C. Massages stimulate circulation while reducing tension in your muscles and can have health benefits such improved nervous system functioning, enhanced skin tone, fewer headaches and migraines, better sleep, and reduction on stress which all leads to improved concentration.
Those people who haven't yet experienced a Back to Health Massage may think that massages are just glorified back rubs, but in fact our massage therapists focus on other areas of the body as well that store stress such as the arms, feet, and even the elbows. There are also several different types of massage that have different benefits depending on your needs. The important thing to remember is that any type of massage helps improve your health and reduce your stress. Below you can find descriptions of just a few of the massages offered at our LaPorte Massage center.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is considered the classic massage method and is been the basis for many other types of massage such as deep tissue massage. Swedish massage therapy relaxes muscles and enhances oxygen flow throughout the body. Using firm or gentle pressure, the practitioner will employ stroking, vibration, friction, kneading, and tapping to create flexibility, relaxation, increased oxygen in the blood, and the easing of aches and pains. Therapists can apply deeper pressure to help rid toxins in the body, to help recover more quickly from injuries, and to reduce emotional and physical stress. Regular swedish massage is an important part of maintaining overall good health and vitality.
Sports Massage
A sports massage is a combination of different types of massage therapies and techniques depending on the needs of the athlete. Sports massage therapy can include techniques from Shiatsu, Thai and Swedish massage. Since almost everything an athlete does is to condition their body (this may be in the form of workouts, weightlifting, drills, and more) it only makes sense that an important part of keeping the body in good condition would be to receive a relaxing and tension-relieving massage. Benefits include:
-
Reduction in swelling
-
Increased energy
-
Increased flexibility/Decreased tension
-
Enhanced performance
-
Injury prevention
-
Pain reduction
Trigger Point Massage
Trigger point massageis a form of therapy that focuses on trigger points in the body. These are not the same as the points used in acupressure, but are physical points in the body that cause pain and can be felt by touch. They are very common and are also commonly known as muscle knots. There are two types of trigger points: active and latent. An active trigger point hurts without being touched and if it is pressed on, it will send the pain to another part of the body. Latent trigger points only hurt when they are touched and they will not send the pain elsewhere in the body. The most obvious and instantaneous benefit of trigger point therapy is pain relief, but there are many more benefits that can be achieved over time with trigger point therapy, including the following:
-
Increased range of motion
-
More flexibility
-
Better circulation
-
Reduced stiffness
The above benefits all take time and several treatments. This is because multiple treatments help to teach the muscles how to move without causing as much pain.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a luxurious experience to feel the deeply relaxing, penetrating heat from the basalt stones, gently and intentionally placed for maximum benefit. Stone massage creates a deeply relaxing experience, allowing you to let go of all the stress that is held within your body. It is really an amazing experience not only for you, but to offer to the ones you love! Those experiencing a hot stone massage will notice a healing improvement of the following symptoms:
-
